After carrying out an International Client Search, you may be presented with an Action Required alert against one or more of the five verification sections. An Action Required result does not necessarily mean the client has failed the check.
To understand why the Action Required result has been returned, you should download the report and review the information provided. The report contains the full details of the result, helping you determine the appropriate next steps.
Section |
What it means |
Action Required |
|---|---|---|
| PEP Check | A potential Politically Exposed Person (PEP) match has been identified. | Review the potential match to determine whether it relates to your client. See My client is a possible PEP match. What should I do? |
| Sanctions Check | A potential match has been identified against a sanctions list. | Review the potential match to determine whether it relates to your client. See My client is a possible sanctions match. What should I do? |
| Mortality Check | The system has been unable to confirm the client is not deceased. | Review the available information and obtain additional evidence if required. |
| ID Verification (International) | The passport image could not be fully verified. | Check that the passport image is clear, complete, and readable. Obtain a new photograph of the original passport and re-run the check. |
| Address and DOB Verification | International Client Searches cannot verify overseas residential addresses. |
Obtain a suitable proof of address document from the client and upload it to the client's record as a Proof of Address document. The client's date of birth can be confirmed from the passport image used during the check. |
Please note: As International Client Searches do not include biometric verification, the Liveness Verification (Biometric) and ID Verification (Biometric) sections will remain Incomplete.
Why did my client not automatically pass the Mortality Check?
The Mortality Check compares the client's first name, last name, and current address against the UK Deceased Persons Database to determine whether there is any indication that the individual has been recorded as deceased.
A failed or Action Required result does not necessarily mean that your client is deceased. It simply means the system has been unable to confidently rule out a potential match or could not verify the result automatically.
This can occur for a number of reasons, including:
- The client shares the same name as a deceased individual.
- The client's address information does not match the records held.
- There is insufficient information available to confidently verify the result.
Why did my client not automatically pass the Address and DOB Verification check?
International Client Searches cannot verify overseas residential addresses because the address verification process relies on UK data sources, including the Electoral Register and the Credit Account Information Sharing (CAIS) system. As these databases only contain UK address information, they cannot be used to verify clients who reside outside the United Kingdom.
Why did my client not automatically pass the ID Verification check?
The ID Verification check confirms that the identity document provided is genuine. This may fail due to:
- The image is blurred or out of focus.
- There is glare, shadow, or reflection obscuring parts of the document.
- The document has been cropped and the entire page is not visible.
- A photograph of a scanned or photocopied document has been used instead of the original.
- The document has expired
- The name on the document does not match the name entered on the system. E.G Missing Middle name or nickname used
Please note: "Passport Invalid" and "MRZ Invalid" are generic error messages and do not necessarily indicate a problem with the passport's validity or the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) itself.
