Completing a Client Risk Assessment
From the Transaction Overview page, click Manage Client.
Scroll down to the Personal Risk Assessment section.
You'll now need to complete the client's risk assessment by answering a series of Yes or No questions. In some cases, you may need to ask your client for the information required before answering.
Some questions will already be completed automatically based on the information you've entered earlier in the onboarding process. For example:
- Is the instructing person an owner/occupier, executor, or do they have Power of Attorney? – This is populated from the Capacity selected when the client was added.
- Is the property valued at over £1 million? – This is based on the property's marketing price.
- Is the client a UK resident? – This is determined from the correspondence address entered for the client.
Answer each remaining question by selecting Yes or No, then click Save Responses.
Depending on your answers, you may be presented with additional risk assessment questions. If this happens, answer each question in the same way and click Save Responses again to continue.
Once you have saved your responses, the client will be assigned a risk level based on the information provided. The risk level will be Low, Medium, or High. You can find out more about how risk levels are calculated in our guide: Understanding the risk assessment & levels.
movebutler will then display the verification options available for that risk level, allowing you to select the most appropriate method to complete the client's due diligence.
Carrying Out In-Platform Checks
Now that you've completed the Personal Risk Assessment and a risk level has been assigned, you can choose one of the available in-platform verification routes to complete your client's due diligence.
The verification routes available depend on the client's risk level.
Low Risk
You can verify a Low Risk client using one of the following routes:
- Route A – Full Electronic Confirmation.
- Route B – PEP & Sanctions Check + 1 × Photo ID document.
- Route C – PEP & Sanctions Check + 2 × Non-Photo ID documents (for clients who do not have photo ID).
Medium Risk
You can verify a Medium Risk client using one of the following routes:
- Route A – Full Electronic Confirmation + 1 × Photo ID document.
- Route B – PEP & Sanctions Check + 1 × Photo ID document + 1 × Proof of Address document.
- Route C – PEP & Sanctions Check + 2 × Non-Photo ID documents (for clients who do not have photo ID).
High Risk
A High Risk client must be verified using the following route:
- Route A – Full Electronic Confirmation + 1 × Photo ID document + 1 × Proof of Address document.
High Risk International Client
- Route A - International Client Search + 1 × Proof of Address document.
To begin a verification route, click the yellow button for the relevant check within your chosen route.
You'll then be taken to a page where you can review and confirm your client's details before ordering the check. Once you've confirmed the information is correct, click Next.
Click Confirm & Order to run the check. The results will then be returned to the client's record, allowing you to continue with the remaining steps in the verification route, if required.
Switching from Digital Onboarding to In-Platform
In some circumstances, you may need to switch from a Digital Onboarding or Online Biometric ID Verification invitation to in-platform verification.
This may be necessary where:
- The client does not have an accepted form of photo ID for Online Biometric ID Verification.
- The client is not confident using technology or is unable to complete the digital process.
- The client encounters technical issues and Product Support advises that the client should be onboarded manually within movebutler.
If the client has already completed their Personal Risk Assessment and has been assigned a risk level, you can proceed directly to Carrying Out In-Platform Checks.
If the client has not yet completed their Personal Risk Assessment, you'll first need to complete the assessment. Once this has been completed, you can proceed to Carrying Out In-Platform Checks using the appropriate verification route for the client's risk level.
